National Libraries Day boosts 'Speak Up' rally
The success of this year's National Libraries Day has been clear, and it adds yet greater weight to the Speak Up For Libraries campaign.
The group will be lobbying parliament tomorrow, 9th February, and it's encouraging anyone who's interested to join them.
Formed in 2012, Speak Up For Libraries is "a coalition of organisations working to protect library services and staff, now and in the future". And it's a group working especially hard to highlight the importance of public libraries in the midst of an austere social climate.
Tomorrow the group goes to Westminster, to lobby parliament on the importance of libraries in public life. It's a proactive rally, but there'll be no marching. Instead, the event will be held in the Aldersgate Room of Central Hall, Westminster and it's completely free to attend.
It's clearly important too. Including speeches, music, videos, and (not forgetting) tea, coffee and biscuits, the rally kicks of with a 10am registration. From then a packed program will see the event go on into the afternoon.
All the information for tomorrow can be found here, and the Speak Up For Libraries social accounts found (Facebook) here, and (Twitter) here.
Do get along if you can, get involved, network and help show support for the cause. It's sure to be a positive and engaging affair. After all, we already know how much Britain loves its libraries.
